There are a lot of positive sides to working from your amazing home with aesthetic lights. At least, you don’t have to wake up so early and get yourself ready 2 hours before. But, maybe a lot of people think you can work from anywhere in the house, but you actually cannot do it. You will find out that the most productive you are if you are working from a proper workstation. You know, one little room or corner of your home with a desk and a chair. Yes, you need your home office if you are planning to work from home all the time.
Setting up your home office means you have got a lot of freedom and choice, as well. Want purple walls? Do it! Love plants all over your office? Be my guest! Buy a pink chair? Go for it! But, no matter how you will decorate it in the end, we have made you a list of things you need to consider when starting with setup of your office. Let’s take a look together – How to set up a home office in 9 easy steps!
1. Choose the perfect location
If you have an empty room, you don’t have to think a lot about where to set up your office. But if you don’t have it, you need to find the best location where you will have peace and quiet to work. It is not as hard as it seems at the beginning, trust me. You need just a bit of a dose of creativity to find the perfect location.
Check out the empty corners of large rooms or use a guest room. You can add some curtains or use room dividers to divide your office from the rest of the house. If you have clients stopping by, a private space with ample seating is a must.
2. Focus on functionality and productivity
Remember that your home office is a place where you need to focus and be productive. Remove all things that can grab your attention – games, personal books, photos, etc. The main purpose of your office is to be your space dedicated only to work.
If you are working in the basement of your house, consider basement ceiling insulation. It will help you isolate yourself from the noise your family is making above you.
3. Invest in a good desk
Now when we found the perfect location, we need to seriously consider buying a good desk for your office. You can work at the kitchen table for some time, but if you plan to work from home for a longer period – a proper desk is a must.
You don’t have to spend an entire fortune on it. Get yourself something that is practical, sturdy, and conductive. Plus, if it has drawers it would be great. You will be able to organize your stuff easily.
4. Get yourself a comfortable chair
You will be spending hours and hours in your office, so getting yourself a good, comfortable chair is not a question at all. Invest in a beautiful, correct, and comfortable one where you can enjoy movies later from kickass torrent. Go ahead and spoil yourself with a chair you have always dreamed about. Once again, you don’t have to spend an entire fortune, but don’t settle on a basic design. You deserve more.
5. Upgrade your tech setup
If you will be spending all working hours inside your office, you need to upgrade your tech setup. If you are still working on an old, basic laptop, it is time to change it.
Get yourself a good monitor, keyboard, and a mouse. Make sure to raise your monitor so your eyes can meet the middle of the screen. All these things, together with a good chair and a good desk make an ideal combination.
6. Think about lightning
The ideal thing is to set your desk in front of your window. That way you won’t have to worry a lot about the light. But anyway, make sure to have a desk lamp and/or a floor lamp to illuminate your space. You don’t want it to look like a cage, don’t you? And when you have Zoom meetings, you need good lightning if you want your colleagues to see you.
7. Get organized
You don’t want to have an unorganized desk, full of papers, pens, notes, and all other things you are using every day. Disorganization is the biggest hurdle with productivity.
Invest in folders, shelves, filing cabinets, and other things that can help you get organized. As I said above, if you have drawers on your desk, organize your stuff. You don’t want to spend every beginning of your working day searching for the stuff you need the following day. Organize everything and your life will be easier.
8. Pay attention to privacy
Make sure no one is stepping inside your office while you are working. You don’t want anyone to distract you. Also, make sure to find a secure place to store your confident material. Get yourself a locking filing cabinet or a safety box and keep your super important things over there. Especially if your 2 year son likes to get through your things.
9. Enhance the sound quality
If you are living all alone then you are luckier than you can imagine. But for others, finding truly quiet place is very hard. Especially with small kids or with a partner who is working also all the time from home.
Choose the spot which will be the quietest during the day. Invest in some soundproofing materials. You can use soundproof room dividers if you use them – it will make your office quieter for sure. If you have a lot of Zoom meetings, you can change background noise – it is a great feature for people living in a noisy environment.
Conclusion
Your home office can be anywhere and anything you want. You can choose the corner of your home to set up an office for yourself. But be sure that you meet some „requirements“ if you plan to use it every day and work from home for a longer period. Invest in some good items that you will need. And be organized – that is a key to success.
