A thermostat is a handy heat-sensitive device that can alter the room temperature as required and gives you a comfy feeling at your homes or offices. These devices are also used in water heaters, ovens, refrigerators, HVAC systems, medical devices, scientific incubators, etc. So, we have established that thermostats have a plethora of uses, but these machines are most prone to glitches due to manhandling.
Some of your fellow workers might want a fresh breeze of air through their hair, and some might want to turn the office into Sahara. So, there is a constant battle to switch the air conditioners on and off. Also, people sometimes forget to turn off the thermostat while scooting for a party, or your kids may work it up when coming home from the playground sweating.
Whatever the case, your thermostats take a lot of load on its shoulders and sometimes may go down with it. While troubleshooting this problem, only one solution comes up, resetting the thermostat.
With a programmable thermostat, for example, Honeywell thermostat, one can set its working hours, after which the device automatically shuts off. But these smart devices to get slow and aberrant after some time and resetting it will kick them back to normal.
Honeywell has a series of devices that have different steps for resetting them. We will talk about them individually. So, stay tuned.
The Honeywell Thermostat 1000 Series
This 1000 series of Honeywell thermostat is non-programmable. The settings are manual.
Steps to reset:
- First, turn your thermostat device off.
- Open your circuit breaker box and switch the power to OFF.
- Now disassemble the thermostat from the wall-plate.
- Remove the 2 x AAA Alkaline Batteries present at the back of the device.
- Insert the batteries back so that the negative pole lines with the positive terminal of the battery port.
- Leave the batteries in this position for about 5-10 seconds.
- Then remove the batteries again and put them back in their original configuration.
- The display will turn ON.
- Secure the thermostat back onto the wall plate.
- Go to the circuit breaker box and switch it ON.
- You are all set.
The Honeywell Thermostat 2000 Series
The 2000 series is the first programmable Honeywell thermostat that became popular worldwide.
Steps to reset:
The steps to Reset Honeywell Thermostat 2000 series are virtually like resetting the 1000 series.
- Switch the thermostat smart device OFF.
- Open your circuit breaker box and switch the power to OFF.
- Now disassemble the thermostat from the wall-plate.
- Remove the 2 x AAA Alkaline Batteries present at the back of the device.
- Insert the batteries back so that the negative pole lines with the positive terminal of the battery port.
- Leave the batteries in this position for about 5-10 seconds.
- Then remove the batteries again and put them back in their original configuration.
- The display will turn ON.
- Secure the thermostat back onto the wall plate.
- Go to the circuit breaker box and switch it ON.
- You are all set.
Word of Caution:
The 2000 series Honeywell Thermostat is not compatible with heat pumps with multistage systems.
The Honeywell Thermostat 4000 Series
Just like the 2000 series, the Honeywell Thermostat 4000 series is also programmable.
Steps to reset:
- For resetting this model, you need to make sure that the device is ON.
- You could find a button labelled “PROGRAM.”
- Press and hold this button.
- Reset the device using a pointed object like a paperclip.
- Wait for approximately 1 or 2 seconds.
- Release the “PROGRAM” option.
- You are all set.
- Once the thermostat is reset, you would need to re-adjust the clock and other settings.
Word of Caution:
Before resetting the thermostat, make yourself familiar with the house’s wiring. The 4000 series of Honeywell Thermostat are a line voltage control with a voltage range of 120–240 Volts. There is a risk of electrocution hazard if precautions are not taken, which may cause severe damage or even death.
The Honeywell Thermostat 6000 Series
This upgrade from the Honeywell family is Wi-Fi enabled programmable thermostat. The Honeywell Thermostat 6000 series can be operated over the internet. All you got to do is, install the registration page dispensed by Honeywell and Sign Up using your email ID.
After you are signed in, a user interface will allow you to navigate through numerous options and configurations of the thermostat. You can control your thermostat device from anywhere.
Steps to reset:
- For resetting this model, you need to make sure that the device is ON.
- You could find a button labelled “FAN.”
- Press and hold this button.
- Now find the “UP” button and press it. Do not release.
- Hold both the options for at least 5 seconds and then release.
- Press the 4th button from left and keep pressing it until the display shows the number “39”.
- Now press the down arrow until the number on the right side of the display changes to “0”.
- After this, press DONE.
- The Wifi setup will pop up blinking on the thermostat.
- You are all set.
The thermostat is now connected to the internet; you can use your smart devices like laptops and mobile, to re-adjust the thermostat.
Word of Caution:
There is a possibility of compressor damage at low temperatures, so do not install the air conditioner if the temperature outside falls below 50°F.
The Honeywell Thermostat 7000 Series
The 7000 series is another programmable thermostat with upgraded features.
Steps to reset:
- Switch the thermostat smart device OFF.
- Open your circuit breaker box and switch the power to OFF.
- Now disassemble the thermostat from the wall-plate.
- Remove the 2 x AAA Alkaline Batteries present at the back of the device.
- Insert the batteries back so that the negative pole lines with the positive terminal of the battery port.
- Leave the batteries in this position for about 5-10 seconds.

This Wi-Fi-enabled Programmable thermostat is an advanced version of previous models and is well-liked by customers. It is very user friendly and is ENERGY STAR certified. The energy consumption is less and fits easily in your busy lifestyle.
Steps to reset:
Steps to reset the Schedules: –
- Press the Menu option on the thermostat.
- Toggle or right arrow buttons until you see the RESET option.
- Use the select button to choose RESET.
- Now use left and right arrows until you see SCHEDULE, then select it by using the select button.
- Press YES to confirm.
- All done.
Steps to completely reset the device to its factory settings, follow these guidelines:
- Press the Menu option on the thermostat.
- Toggle the left or right arrow buttons until you see the RESET option.
- Use the select button to choose RESET.
- Now with the arrow keys, select a reset option.
- Now select YES to complete reset or NO to go back to the sub-menu.
- You are all done.
Now use your smart devices and configure your device.
The Honeywell 8000 Series
The Honeywell 8000 series is a programmable touchscreen smart thermostat device equipped with a decent 10″ LCD screen. It is very durable and has a solid build. Resetting this device is a cakewalk.
Steps to reset:
- Switch the device on.
- Press the “SYSTEM” option on the display screen.
- There will be a blank button in the middle. Hold it down for 5 seconds minimum.
- Select the “Reset to factory settings.” option.
- You are all done.

- First, press the MENU button.
- Scroll down to the PREFERENCES option.
- Select the RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULT option.
- Press YES.
